Connect Community
Partnering with OUR Community, Co-operating with OUR Environment.
Recognising the delicate balance between profitability and sustainability, Connect NZ takes tremendous pride in our environmental and community initiatives. We are committed to leading the industry in minimising the impact of our activities on the environment.
As a 100% NZ owned and operated private company since 1979, Connect NZ recognises the unique qualities that we are privileged to enjoy through working and living in New Zealand.
The stakeholders share a managerial belief in a two part approach to environmental responsibility – firstly, a commitment to delivering back to society real value in return for the resources we have utilised and secondly, a recognition of our responsibilities to maintain the well being of our people, our customers and our community.
Our board has adopted a robust succession plan - and this, in conjunction with our ‘induction’ orientated cadet program ensures that we enjoy a continuous ‘pool’ of new talent. This ‘Intellectual Capital’ is becoming the very essence of our company, and is immeasurable in its ability to build admiration into the Connect NZ brand.
We are in a constant state of improvement with our partners to ensure that we are creating a business model that will have a positive impact on the next generation.
The key points of our environmental strategy are:
- Our pride in being a New Zealand owned and operated company underpins a belief, shared by stakeholders and employees, that a continual contribution to the well being of the society in which we operate, is simply good business
- Our insurance centre in Wellington facilitates a massive salvage and recycling depot which maximises the value in technology whilst simultaneously reducing the amount of landfill.
- We aim to meet or exceed all Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (EECA) guidelines and recommendations within all of Connect NZ to reduce energy usage.
- We manage the refurbishment and recycling of Telecommunication equipment through ComX Ltd. – a company with which Connect NZ is a proud shareholder.
- Work with local recyclers to achieve zero landfill in components, PCB's and toner cartridges.
- Minimise waste by evaluating operations and ensuring they are as efficient as possible.
- Minimise toxic emissions by progressively replacing our older 2.0 litre wagons with smaller 1.4 litre vehicles.
- Actively promote recycling both internally and amongst its customers and suppliers.
- Source and promote a product range to minimise the environmental impact of both production and distribution.
- Quarterly reviews encompass risk identification, environmental and extraordinary personnel issues at board level.
Connecting with our Community
Connect NZ has formed a number of enduring and meaningful connections with various community groups and service organisations in an effort to both reciprocate and pay forward. The stakeholders of Connect NZ fully embrace the concept of partnership and that partnership extends not only to customers, employees and suppliers but to the communities we choose to live and play in.
Some of the partnerships we devote our attention and resources to include:
- Sponsor of the Kauri 2000 Trust, with employees encouraged to participate in the reforestation of the Coromandel Peninsula in paid work time.
- Key CNZ stakeholders have been actively involved since 1990 in forestry planting projects, both exotic and native, in Gisborne and the Coromandel Peninsula.
- Sponsor of the Kuaotunu Kiwi Sanctuary on the Coromandel Peninsula.
- Technology Partners with the Waikato Museum in Hamilton City
- Partners with the Northern Districts Cricket Association and the Northern Knights
- Community Partners with the Canterbury Red Cross
